A special Festival gig in Aldeburgh on Saturday November 5th at 1pm at the Jubilee Hall, with with Andy Bennett (Norfolk), Dan Clark (Suffolk), Tess Gardener (Essex) & Fay Roberts (Cambridgeshire)

It gives me great pleasure to announce a really special SoapBox gig taking place as part of the inaugural 'Poetry In Aldeburgh' Festival - this November 5th in the Jubilee Hall (Aldeburgh) 1pm – 2pm. We were delighted to be asked to pick four of our favourite spoken word poets, one from each of the four counties in the East, as part of this wonderful event on the gorgeous Suffolk coast.

We picked four outstanding poets and performers to represent us at this Festival. Poets who have left a serious impression upon us with their wordplay, intellectual discourse, performance skills and sense of humour. SoapBox has been producing spoken word and poetry for a decade now and we really know our stuff. We have had the great pleasure of supporting many new artists at the beginning of their careers, and then had the joy of seeing them become household names like Scroobius Pip, Kate Tempest and Luke Wright.

The four poets we've picked for this event are: Andy Bennett (Norfolk), Dan Clark (Suffolk), Tess Gardener (Essex) and Fay Roberts (Cambridgeshire). You probably won't know all of the poets we are putting on at this particular event. But that is the point. We go to extraordinary lengths to find new, lesser known and underground poets. These are artists that are equally as likely to be reading in a literary Festival setting, as performing at gigs in music venues with musicians. Exciting contemporary poets who are forging a new alliance with page and stage. We know how to find great poets and we are convinced that the future holds great things for these four writers. We are literally staking our reputation on it.

It is a really exciting time for spoken word, or performance poetry, or live literature – whatever you want to call it – there is no denying we are taking poetry to people, and places that more traditional work can not reach. SoapBox has been working hard over the past ten years to change how and where people encounter poetry. This is an extension of that aim. Take a chance and join us for a truly incredible event in the company of four of East Anglia's best poets.

Aldeburgh is a beautiful seaside town and we thoroughly recommend coming up for the day, eating some of their world famous chips on the sea wall and enjoying the inspiring sea views. We are very pleased to be a part of Poetry In Aldeburgh, a new poetry Festival for the East, run by volunteers and all not for profit. There are loads of great poets in the programme, with several smaller events which are completely free of charge so there is lots to see and do that weekend.

Tickets are £10 each available from the Festival website www.poetryinaldeburgh.org Advance purchase is much appreciated as it helps support the Festival so please do spread the SoapBox word, bring a friend and tell your mates. We promise an afternoon of poetry that will leave you speechless.

There will be a 10% discount for Students and OAP's if you buy from the booking office during the Festival opening hours starting Friday 4th November. The Ticket office is only a couple of minutes walk from the venue and will be open from 9am – 5pm.

As a special incentive, we have committed to writing a poem for every single person who buys a ticket – which will be emailed to you within a fortnight, after the event has taken place. Each poem will be different, handwritten and composed by one of the SoapBox poetry family, especially for you. Please do remember to sign up to our mailing list on the day to receive your poem.
