The Women's Voices, Women's Votes - 100 years on project was launched last year by a group of Suffolk based women's organisations. It is intended to mark the centenary of the first women to gain the vote in the UK. The project's main activity is a one-day festival for women on Saturday 6th October at the University of Suffolk in Ipswich. The theme of the festival day is Voices · Change · Power and will feature inspiring talks, empowerment workshops, a specially commissioned drama, performances by local female artists, craftivism, panel discussions, exhibitions, voting, speed mentoring, and much more. The festival is designed to lift up and amplify women's voices, many of which might not otherwise be heard. And encourage more women to become involved in all areas of civic life. The project is designed and delivered by women for women.
Our luanch event takes place tomorrow at the Pacitti Company Think Tank, Ipswich, 7.30pm - 9.30pm, and is free to attend. Join us for a chance to meet the team, hear about our plans for the Festival over a free glass of wine. Amy SoapBox was one of the women who answered the intial public call for engagement six months ago now, and has been part of the steering committee since conception. It has been an honour and a privelege to meet and work alongside some of Ipswich and Suffolk's most inspiring women. Amy will be running a poetry workshop at the Festival, and curating the evening after-party at La Tour Cycle Cafe featuring a host of brilliant local women in music and the arts, with a special guest headliner to be announced.
All are welcome at the Festival, and the launch event. Please do RSVP HERE if you'd like to attend the launch so we can fill up enough glasses of wine for everyone. And put the date of the Festival in your diary now : Saturday October 6th at the University of Suffolk. 10am-late.
