Women's Voices Women's Votes Festival, in conjunction with getonthesoapbox & Future Female Society, are proud to present the awesome comedian & activist: KATE SMURTHWAITE.
Kate performs stand-up comedy all over the UK and around the world. She is currently touring her 13th one-woman show Clit Stirrer, which received five-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has appeared as a panelist on Question Time as well as The Big Questions, This Morning, BBC News, Sky News, Woman's Hour, The Today Program, The Moral Maze and Newsnight.
She has a regular column in New Internationalist magazine and has also written for The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Mirror, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and New Statesman as well as Have I Got News For You and BBC3’s BAFTA-winning The Revolution Will Be Televised.
Internationally she is best-known as the star of a viral video circulated under the name Atheist Bitchslap. In 2012 she made a program for BBC Radio 4's Four Thought series on sexism in comedy and in the comedy industry.
Kate's campaigning work has included almost a decade as spokesperson for Abortion Rights UK and working with female asylum seekers through Women For Refugee Women and Women Asylum Seekers Together. Kate also teaches comedy through City Academy, City Lit and Skyros Holidays.
