SoapBox is absolutely delighted to announce the return of Words & Verses, Ipswich's only regular and longest running spoken word open mic night (est. 2012).
We have spent months looking for a new venue that we can call home, that is free entry, accessible, welcomes all ages and is run by a supportive team. Super grateful to the team at the Manor Ballroom for inviting us into their lovely venue and we are very excited to start our three month residency here.
How does it work?
Words & Verses is hosted by Amy Wragg and is a fun, friendly and welcoming platform. We welcome spoken word of all kinds; poetry, storytelling, rap and everything in between and outside the lines. Covers & originals also welcome so do grab your favourite poem and share it with us. We'd love to hear it. The rules are simple, no music, no backing tracks, no instruments. Bring yourself, some words and a sense of humour.
How can I sign up to perform?
Happy to take sign-ups on the facebook page in advance, and on the night, but, (this is very important), the running order will be drawn on the night. (5mins each) All performers are asked to be in the building by 8pm please. This is an open mic night and we pride ourselves of being supportive, warm and friendly. Please come for the night and support your fellow open mic-ers, if you are able. We do understand caring responsibilities, work and travel can be limiting for some, and that's totally cool. We really look forward to welcoming you to W&V.
Doors 7pm, Starts 8pm. Running order drawn at 7.55pm
Fully accessible venue.
All ages welcome, but please be aware there may be adult language and content.
Please bring ID for the bar if you are lucky enough to look younger than your years.
FIRST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH: 5th Feb, 4th March, 1st April.

Words & Verses is named after a quote from a Scroobius Pip poem, the chap who started my lifetime love affair with spoken word so it felt very appropriate to honour his impact on my life. So with that in mind, the last words on this event go to the man himself:
'Thou shalt not attend an open mic and leave as soon as you've done your sh*tty little poem or song, you self-righteous pr*ck! - Scroobius Pip
