Thursday 28th September
7pm - 11pm
The Spread Eagle

All over the country people will be celebrating National Poetry Day with all kinds of performances, readings, workshops and gigs. Here in Ipswich we are proud to have a thriving community of extraordinary writers, poets, rappers and wordsmiths, with close ties to poets from across the Eastern region. SoapBox has decided to put this event on to welcome them all to the same stage, for one night only, to share their love of words on National Poetry Day.

Its completely FREE ENTRY so do join us for this varied and fun night of poetry, in all its shapes and sizes and sounds. You can expect comedy, politics, rhythm and rhyme, rap, free verse, sonnets, surrealism and open mic spots too - sign up on the night only. Please note, there will be adult language, themes and content.

Featuring: Bards Aloud / Matt Annis / Em Bea / Meg Burrows / Dan Clark / Jayd Green / Sharon Hulme / Jess Kemp / Allanah Jo-Ann Peck / Billy Pilgrim / Rye Shappy / Amy SoapBox / Hazel Thomas / Sue Wallace-Shaddad / Martin Webby / Christine York aka the Punk Rock Granny

The theme for NPD17 is 'freedom' and in the spirit of this, we will be setting up a donations bucket at the gig to raise funds for the volunteer run facebook organisation 'Phone credit for refugees and displaced people'. They provide vital phone credit to refugees and displaced adults and children, across Europe and beyond. Reg charity: 1099682. Donations are not mandatory and we welcome everyone to join us at this celebratory event which explores and enjoys language in all its forms.
