Event : Words & Verses 2025

04/03/2025
On Tuesday at The Spread Eagle

Join SoapBox for the first Words & Verses of 2025, now on a TUESDAY, and back at our favourite pub THE SPREAD EAGLE, slap bang in the centre of town.

Same wordy nerdy fun. Poets, rappers, storytellers, comedians, poetry & prose: All words welcome. 5 minutes each.

Bring something you've written yourself, or read a favourite piece of writing by someone else (famous or otherwise. Maybe your mate is too shy to perform their own writing?). 5 minutes each. Either sign-up in advance, or sign-up on the day. We'll always keep at least 50% of the spots available to be allocated 'on the day' as we know lots of folks get the confidence to take part once they've experienced our rather special vibe.

This is a friendly, supportive and truly special event, where everyone who takes the mic is the star. There will be adult language & content, and there may well be political rantings and more. We welcome all of this.

However, we know it usually goes without saying, but just to be really clear: these things are not welcome: No misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, racism, anti-choice, bigotry, and other such fxckwittery. If the current president of the US would agree with the content of your work, then this event isn't the right place for your work. Absolutely NO heckling either. None of these things have ever been a regular problem for us, but I hope you can understand why its important to state this outright in the climate we are living in.

SoapBox has always been a champion for the underdog, the newbies, the weirdos, the creative oddballs, and the curious. We pride ourselves on this, and celebrate the diversity of the amazing community we inhabit.

We encourage everyone to listen to each other, and come with your heart and mind open. We usually get around 18 people take part, and around 40 in attendance, and its quite fast paced. We do always have (at least) 4 breaks throughout the event, to create space for nattering and networking.

Proudly brought to you by ww.getonthesoapbox.co.uk and hosted by Amy Wragg.
